I was expecting this book to be a silly, typical teen romance, but after hearing so many good things about it, I finally decided to read it!
This book’s plot did seem a little predictable — small-town poor girl falls in love with wealthy boy — but I thought Jennifer E Smith did a great job portraying both of the characters’ lives and their differences. The characters were also really well developed, which honestly surprised me.
However, the romance just didn’t do it for me. Like I mentioned before, it was predictable. And it was sort of unrealistic. The whole plot centers around the two characters falling in love over the Internet. Let me just say, if some random person emails you by accident, there are many appropriate responses but striking up a conversation with them is not one of them.
The writing was okay, I suppose. I’ve found that in romance books the writing style is never particularly well-written but it’s never terrible either. I realize that this review might be a little biased due to my slight aversion towards romance novels, but I’m trying my best to stay open minded. 🙂
Anyway, this book was overall enjoyable, but I don’t think I was the right reader for it.
